Alex Austin will not return to the New England Patriots in 2026.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Austin is taking his talents to the Miami Dolphins in free agency.
“The #Dolphins are signing former #Patriots CB and special teams ace Alex Austin to a 1-year deal,” Schultz posted on X. “The 24-year-old has 8 career PBUs and 1 INT, as Jeff Hafley continues to bolster his secondary — in a deal done by Malki Kawa and Shawn O’Gorman of First Round Management.”
Austin was selected by the Buffalo Bills with the No. 252 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Oregon State product signed with the Patriots as a free agent on Nov. 2, 2023. He recorded 31 tackles, eight pass deflections, one interception and two tackles for loss for the Patriots from 2023-25.
The Patriots lose another member of their secondary after safety Jaylinn Hawkins agreed to a two-year, $10 million deal with the Baltimore Ravens in free agency on Wednesday. Austin is slated to play in his fourth season in the NFL for the Dolphins in 2026.
